That's right. According to my car, it reached 106 today. A little too hot but I'm not going to complain.

We're going to Decatur Island this weekend with Joe's family. They rented a house and there will be about 20 or so people there. You can only reach it by boat so Joe's Uncle Jack is going to pick us up at the marina in Anacortes on Friday. Can't wait for a fun weekend!

A wonderful weekend

This past weekend was my second and last bridal shower. It was simply amazing! My sister and mom did an awesome job putting everything together. There were probably about 30 people. The menu included chicken salad sandwiches on crossaints, stuffed apricots, pasta salad, tons of fruit, tomatos with mozzerla and balsamic vingegar---everything was so good!

Thanks to everyone who was there and made it such a special day. It will be a day I will always remember!

Oh Joe...

That's the bike rack on our Subaru and those are our car/house keys.....

Last week Joe drove the Subaru and when we got home I went out to water and he went to get the mail and take the garbage out. Apparently he decided the bike rack would be a good place to leave the keys while doing that. I didn't see him put them there and the next morning I was frantically searching for my keys to leave for work. Instead of calling him, I decided to save time and just take the spare key---I figured he accidentally took them to work with him anyway.

I left for work, drove down Westside Highway going 50 mph and made a stop at my mom and dads to drop something off---which meant a pretty steep trek up their hill. When I got there Joe called in a panic and said, "Oh my gosh, I just thought of something---I left your keys on the bike rack." WHAT?! I couldn't believe it! Joe's very smart but that was just stupid! I told him that I was already at my mom and dads so we thought for sure they were gone. Low and behold, they made the trip on top of my car with me. Our lucky day!

My brother-in-law is a genius

My brother-in-law, the one and only George DeCarlo, has been in the news a lot the past two days! It all started yesterday. I had lunch with my sister and she told me that The Columbian was interviewing him at 1:30 for the website he's created, iAte. Exciting, right? Well then he calls while we're having lunch and tells us that one of Portland's biggest bloggers had just blogged about iAte on his blog, Silicon Florist. You can find the actual blog about iAte here.

I woke up at 5 this morning and checked The Columbian website first thing. The article hasn't been published yet but it should be in the paper anyday!

As if that's not enough excitment, tonight while I was out watering flowers Joe started yelling at me through the window. I honestly didn't hear him and actually thought he was talking to Subie. He gets really animated when he's givin' Subie attention, so I didn't think it was anything out of the norm. He stormed outside shortly after and said, "What are you doing?? You missed it! There was just a blurb about iAte on Live@7 on KGW!! That's right, it was on the Portland news tonight! So exciting!

Check it out and give it a try at iAte.com. Or follow iAte on Twitter!

Congrats, George. We're so excited and proud of you!

Now all of you loyal blog readers, check it out, sign up and start tweeting about your eats!

New health forum

I came across a forum tonight all about natural medicine. You can find it by clicking here: health forum. I'm always interested in reading about the latest cures as well as possible causes of cancer. Something we're doing or something in our environment has got to be causing it. It's everywhere!

Anyway, as I was browsing the forum (do I sound like a nerd or what?!), I found a topic claiming that mouthwash causes oral cancer.

Most mouthwashes, such as Listerine, contain over 25% alcohol and apparently using alcohol-containing mouthwashes daily raise the risk of developing cancers of the mouth, pharynx and larynx 400 to 500 percent! Smoke and/or drink? You're at a 900 percent increase risk of cancer. 900 percent?! Say it ain't so! That's crazy!

Any doctors out there? True or false? Whatever the case, I'm buying alcohol-free Listerine tomorrow!

Life is busy...

....which explains the lack of updates. Everytime I decide to update I end up deciding against it. I keep thinking I don't have anything blog-worthy to write about, which is still the case tonight but what the heck, I'll blog anyway!

I had my first bridal shower in Tacoma on the 27th. It was fun, got a trunk full of stuff and had a great weekend. My dad even came up that night and we all (my family and Joe's) had dinner at Indochine in Tacoma. If you're ever in Tacoma, it's a must try! Delish!

This past weekend was full of food, parties, more food and fun. I have decided that the 4th of July is worse for diets than Thanksgiving. Well, if you go to the Staple's 4th of July party at least! So much food! An entire table of just desserts---15 Papa Pete's pizzas, homemade salads, even Hart C's. Not a fan of Hart C's, but it was pretty tasty! I just avoided the meat.

We ended our long weekend with a trip to the Vancouver Farmer's Market with Kim, George and Sophie.

Hmmm, I think that's about it. Gearing up for another busy few weeks. Final meeting with wedding coordinator this weekend, shower #2 next Saturday, Decatur Island the following weekend, and then just about every weekend from here on out is booked until the wedding. Crazy. The year has gone oh-so-fast.

Hope everyone is having a good week!
